Compport is an enterprise compensation management platform that helps organizations manage compensation, promotions, bonuses, and workforce planning from a single platform.

As organizations grow, so do their reporting structures. HR teams need to understand how employees, managers, and departments are connected before making workforce decisions.

Despite supporting key HR workflows, the platform lacked an Org Chart. HR managers had to navigate multiple employee profiles to understand who reports to whom, making promotions, transfers, reporting changes, and terminations slower than they needed to be.

HR managers had to navigate multiple employee profiles just to understand reporting relationships. Answering "Who reports to whom?" was more difficult than it should have been.

Workforce changes lacked context

Workforce changes lacked context

Promotions, employee transfers, manager changes, and terminations were performed from individual employee pages. Without seeing the bigger picture, it was difficult to understand how these changes affected the organization.

Organizational planning was fragmented

Organizational planning was fragmented

Managing vacancies, restructuring teams, or planning future hires required switching between different views. There was no single workspace for workforce planning.

Finding the right employee didn't scale

Large enterprise organizations can have thousands of employees across departments and locations. Without search, filters, or a navigable hierarchy, exploring the organization became slow and overwhelming.

Before exploring solutions, we aligned on three goals that would help HR teams make workforce decisions faster, with greater clarity and confidence.

"How can HR understand the organization before making workforce decisions?"

Make organizational structures easy to understand

APPROACH

APPROACH

the thinking behind the experience

the thinking behind the experience

Rather than adding features to an organizational hierarchy, we focused on the product decisions that would help HR teams understand, plan, and execute workforce changes more effectively.

01

The Org Chart should be more than a visualization.

A read-only hierarchy improved visibility but not productivity. We wanted HR teams to understand the organization and take action from the same place.

02

Every workforce decision needs context.

Workforce changes affect more than one employee. I wanted HR teams to see the organizational impact before making decisions.

03

HR managers shouldn't have to reconstruct the organization.

Switching between employee profiles made it difficult to understand reporting relationships. I wanted the organization to be clear at a glance.

04

Workforce planning should include future roles.

Planning isn't just about current employees. I wanted vacant positions to be visible so HR teams could plan ahead with confidence.
